Shop update: 10/04/2013

Been a busy few weeks, lots of jobs in and out and progress made on the more long term jobs. The good news is, as we clear out these jobs, the new Dakota Kits are eminent!

Just wrapped up a Vintage Air install on Ron Shives’ 1957 Chevy Hardtop. Such a nice car, we removed the AirTique unit installed a decade or more ago that never quite worked properly and installed a new Vintage Air sure-fit unit. In went a Vintage Air Front Runner package and radiator relocation to the 6 cylinder position so that we had room for a Volvo 850 two speed cooling fan. We also upgraded to a Borgeson Delphi 600 power steering box, Flaming River steering column and did some routine maintenance for him. Overall the car turned out fantastic, very nice daily driver now.

Dr Marvelus is going to town on Tony’s 60 Bonneville, pretty rusty car in all the structural areas, so look for updates on that soon.

Larry Ivy’s 34 PU is roller status, cab goes on and the controls are going in soon.

More importantly, Bob’s 32 5W chassis will be going together next week in preparation for the Deuce Day show. We are doing the second build out of our “Bolt – In” center X-member! These will be available in the store very soon.

And the news you are waiting for, the Dakota kits are in process as soon as Bob’s 32 frame comes off. First up will be the 65-66 frames and the 53-56 and 57-60’s immediately after.

New to the site? having issues with placing an order?

Had someone tell me they were having an issue and not able to place an order. They were using Internet Explorer 10 (IE 10.0) and when they hit “add to cart” a popup window opened and just stalled.

If you register an account with my website; name, email and a password, then go back to the store everything should work just fine.

If you find any more bugs, please let me know!

Machine building: Roller V Dies

Freshly machined and ready to use, my roller bottom dies for my press brake.
Freshly machined and ready to use, my roller bottom dies for my press brake.

I have seen the Rolla-V dies for press brakes before, really want a set and am saving my cash for some. In the mean time I spent some after hours minutes machining and welding a set for myself. Just using a standard V-punch for right now but in the near future I will build a few radiused punches.

These things are pretty trick, if you search YouTUBE you will find a few other videos on how they work. My biggest reason for doing this is to be able to bend with a larger radius with accuracy for brake pedal arms or any other large material

1957 Triumph T110 for sale

Well sorted and very rideable 1957 Pre-Unit Triumph T110. I am asking $7,500.00 USD.

Excellent shape and needs nothing. Fresh top end by Wes White of Four Aces Cycles, aftermarket performance cams and nicely balanced. Rare DELTA dual carb head. Twin AMAL Monobloc carbs with WEBCO bowl extensions. WEBCO rocker bridge and sump cover. Very nice Lucas K2FC magneto that works superb, SRM oil pressure relief and screen. Brand new Alton Alternator (YES, no Lucas generator to die on you when you need it most!) converted to 12V negative ground. MAP Belt Drive with a dry clutch, fabricated and chromed rear sets, chromed “Clubman” type bars and modified W650 front end to look stock. Stock 4 speed trans that works very well and makes no noise and shifts nicely.

Body work is old but still looks great. Two tone light yellow and black with gold leafed lettering and blue pinstriping. The tank is from a later Triumph and has a custom made parcel grid, chromed, to resemble the original. Fenders are modified Wassel aftermarket that have had the center rib widened to match what the originals looked like. Custom grab bars and a BSA Bantam Sports seat fitted. Original tool box and oil tank.

New Dunlop K81 tires and heavy duty Dunlop tubes. Chromed steel rim fitted to the W650 front hub to match the rear. Disc front and stock drum rear. Plenty of braking for modern traffic and the Dunlop Tires handle supremely well. I have owned this bike for quite some time. Been an absolute hoot to ride, always a show stopper when I take it out. But for me it’s time to move on.

Still here! Still working hard!

There has been a hurried rush to get this 51 Chevy truck done before the new year. It has consumed all of our time, stalling every other project in the shop.

As soon as we have this truck done we need to get caught up on the rat-rod projects and the Jaguar suspended 1957 Oldsmobile. Shortly after we clear our plate we are going to finish the crossmember kit series for the Ford trucks ranging from 1953-1966. Top priority for us. Soon after that we are going to start our next product line of hot rod chassis, including a very inexpensive frame for you to start your own project from if you so wish.

The focus on that series of frames is going to be 60s Drag Racing inspired and somewhat modular so you can mix and match from our catalog to end up with something unique. Lets try and drag the Rat-Rodders kicking and screaming into performance and looks!

Helve Hammer #3

This is #3 of three ever built full custom Helve Hammers.

IC Helve Hammer #3

This started almost two years ago with my desire to build a helve hammer for myself and the need for a power hammer of some sort to speed up work progress on a few projects around the shop. I wasn’t pressed for time so #1 took almost a year for me to complete and start using. Mike Tatum and Jessy Whitener persuaded me to build them each a copy, the persuasion was a good trade for all of us. So near the end of last year, I started the build process on two more machines, Jessy owns #2 and a generous trade was to be made at the completion of #3 to Mike. Since Mikes passing, the trade is off and his survivors pounced on the piece I really wanted and sold it off already. That leaves me with a machine that I would like to keep.

I have over 150 hours in crafting this machine, this is a labor of love for my craft.

However, times as they are and I need funding to push other projects forward in the shop I am offering this machine up for sale.

Machine will include a completed hammer assembly, 3/4 horse DC Servo motor with “dragster style” foot pedal. Several hammer head sets including a die holder for making beads and profiles and instruction on how to adjust the machine to perform heavy blows for rapid shaping or for fast firm blows for planishing action.

$6500.00 and local pickup only.
